Restriction for sailing yachts at the exit from Lielupe to the Gulf of Riga.
For owners of sailing yachts in Jurmala and for potential those wishing to rent a yacht in Jurmala, 2021 was not a successful year. This is due to technical complications at the exit from the Lielupe River into the Gulf of Riga.

As experienced yachtsmen and amateurs know, a sailing yacht has a deeper draft than a motor yacht. All sailing yachts have an underwater heavy keel for balance and safety. This keel stops the yacht from capsizing and acts as a counterweight. The height of the underwater keel on a medium-sized yacht is approximately 1.5 meters to 2 meters. As a result, the draft of a medium-sized yacht is 2 meters or more.
Every year, due to natural factors, at the exit from the Lielupe River into the Gulf of Riga, the bottom is artificially deepened. This process is usually planned in advance in the winter, coordinated with the Jurmala City Council, and begins in the spring.
In 2021, the depth at the exit to the bay from Lielupe has decreased as usual, and requires human intervention. But due to certain circumstances, work to deepen the day in 2021 was not planned and agreed upon in advance, and was subsequently not completed. In this regard, the depth at the outlet is about 1 meter and in some places even less.
As a result, sailing yachts of even medium size became impossible to sail in 2021.
At the moment, the local government has planned dredging work for the month of July.
Under current circumstances, all sailing yachts operate only on the Lielupe River and the Bulupe River.
By the end of June 2021, the local government promises to coordinate and complete construction work on dredging.
Our yacht agency also has in its fleet two-story motor yachts and hard top type boats.
These boats and motor yachts have an acceptable draft for passage through almost any body of water, including where the depth has now changed.
The average draft of a motor yacht is from 95 cm to 1 meter 25 centimeters.
