In order to operate a jet ski or recreational craft in Latvia, it is enough to pass a theoretical exam at CSDD. This certificate will allow you to sail on pleasure boats up to 12 meters in length in Latvian inland waters and up to 5 km from the coastline.
 
For example, 5 km from the coastline is to where the ships stand in the roadstead waiting for their turn to enter the port of Riga. You can no longer walk with CSDD rights. Also, a driver’s license obtained from CSDD is only valid in the territory of the Republic of Latvia.
 
A driver's license issued by the CSDD will give you minimal knowledge and understanding of how traffic works on the water and how to behave in different situations on the water. But since this is only theoretical knowledge, not a single company or individual will give you a yacht or boat for rent without an experienced captain, even if you have a driving license.
 
Driving a car is completely different from driving a powerboat.
 
Main differences:
 
1. A car can be brought to a complete stop, but a boat, even with the engine turned off, has movement due to the water current and wind.
2. A thorough knowledge of the water area and all its dangerous places is required to avoid collision and damage to the boat.
3. a significant difference when parking and mooring the boat.
